It designs, builds, integrates and supports production technology. That covers bespoke software, web and mobile applications, cloud services and integration, workflow automation and AI-enabled systems, internal operational tooling, and the sourcing and integration of technology against a defined requirement.
It is a small company with senior technical ownership of the work it takes on. There is no layer between the person you speak to and the person doing the engineering. That is the main reason to work with us, and the main reason not to: we are the right choice for defined pieces of work delivered well, and the wrong choice for a programme that needs a hundred people on it.
How we work
Every engagement starts with a written scope and acceptance criteria, because the most expensive failure in software delivery is two parties who believed they had agreed different things. Change is handled in writing rather than absorbed silently.
Delivery is phased so each phase produces something usable. Testing runs against the criteria agreed at the outset, including accessibility and security checks where they apply. Documentation and handover are part of the work, not a line item that gets cut when the timeline tightens.
We say no to work we are not suited to. That is worth stating explicitly, because a supplier who has never declined anything is telling you something about how they scope.
Where a requirement needs a specialism we do not hold in-house, Astri Devs works with specialist delivery partners and subcontractors while retaining clear commercial and delivery accountability. Proposed partners are identified during procurement rather than introduced after award.
Engineering principles
These are the trade-offs we make by default. They are not aspirational; they are how decisions get resolved when two options both look reasonable.
Simplicity where possible
The cheapest system to run is the one with the fewest moving parts. Complexity should be introduced deliberately, in exchange for something specific, and written down when it is.
Maintainability over novelty
Conventional technology, chosen because someone else will have to maintain it. A framework that is interesting today is a liability in four years when nobody available has used it.
Testability
Behaviour that matters is covered by automated tests. Not for the coverage figure, but so that the next change can be made without fear.
Security as a requirement
Dependency management, secrets handling, least-privilege access and environment separation are part of the build, not a remediation phase after a penetration test.
Observability
When something breaks at 07:00, an operator needs to know what broke and where. Logging and monitoring are designed for that person, not for the developer who wrote the code.
Documentation and clear ownership
Written architecture notes, runbooks and handover. A buying organisation should be able to change supplier without the system becoming unmaintainable.
Location and delivery
Astri Devs is based in Manchester, United Kingdom. There is one location: the registered office in Manchester. We do not have offices in London, New York, Dubai or anywhere else, and any website telling you otherwise is not this one.
Work is delivered remotely with on-site attendance where an engagement needs it. We work with organisations across the United Kingdom, and internationally where the requirement and the contracting position make sense.
